The Australian Government has opened up a lump sum payment for people who were seriously affected by the floods from February 2022.

Applications are open and will close 3 September 2022.

Kyogle, Byron, Ballina, Lismore and Tweed are included for the disaster payment.

To claim, you or your dependent child must have been seriously affect by the floods and storms. For example:

  • You were seriously injured,
  • You’re the immediate family member of an Australian citizen or resident who died or is missing,
  • The flood caused major damage to your home.

If your claim is due to property or damage, people will need to assess the damage first. You may need to provide evidence e.g. photos.

If you are part of a couple, you can make separate claims. Your application’s will need to be made individually.

Eligible applicants will expect to receive the following:

  • $1, 000 per adult,
  • $400 for each child younger than 16.

The payment is not for minor damage or inconvenience.

You can claim online via the MyGov app if it is link to Centrelink. Otherwise, please call 180 22 66 for assistance. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm.
